Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag!

It’s that time of the year again! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by already. I do think this has been one of the best years I’ve had in a while (probably because I’m not depressed anymore!) and reading wise? I’m killing it you guys!

Quick note: As of 07/03/18 I’ve read a total of 45 full length novels, 6 of them 5-star reads, 27 a hefty 4-stars, eight 3-stars, three 2-stars and one DNF. I have my Goodreads challenge set into 150 books aaand we’ll see if I can hit that hefty goal.

Now onto the questions!

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2018?

pretty girls

This book! I cannot stop gushing about this you guys! It’s dark and gritty and it does a good job at showing how f*cked up the human psyche can get and it’s just chilling. I know that reality is more bizarre than fiction and it probably is, but this book, it sounds like something someone out there would do or, is currently doing *chills*. To anyone who can stomach violence and gore and psychopathy, I highly HIGHLY recommend this book!

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2018?

I haven’t read that much sequels this year yet but so far this is my favorite, for this year and so far, out of all sequels I’ve read! Sarah J. Maas just outdid herself in this one, it’s fascinating and captivating and it holds a special place in my heart *swoons* ❤

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But You Want To?

Umm.. Children of Blood and Bone? I’m not really that updated with new releases lol. I try to keep up sometimes but I have so many books I have to work on already that I kind of avoid it to resist the temptation to pre-order stuff haha (I’m an impulse buyer; still working on it!)

4. Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half of 2018?

refer to point above. I don’t have any you guys 😦 I’ll get a whiff of something off of the blogs and BookTube so I’ll get news… eventually.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

My first DNF of the year:

This was PAINFULLY SLOW. I wanted to cry you guys. I was listening to this on audiobook, which was fantastic, because the narrator was good. But even at 2x speed and awesome voice acting, this was just a drag. It was disappointing because I’ve heard so much about Sarah Waters and this book had LGBTQ aspects to it buut it fell flat. I hope her other works get better though!

6. Biggest Surprise?

This one! It was a review book I got from Blogging For Books (RIP) before they closed down and unfortunately I just finished it today. (I was bad at requesting ARCs and doing them okay). This was a hefty 5 STARS! ❤ It was inspiring and it gave me a new perspective to how the military life works and how amazing medicine is and how resilient humans can be if we choose to. I’ll post a book review for this one just because it’s absolutely wonderful to read.

It’s nonfiction by the way. Don’t let it scare you.

7. Favourite New Author?

KAREN freaking SLAUGHTER! I am now a hooked fan. I’m definitely planning on working my way through her books and buying them and collecting them and loving them and basking in their awesomeness. I love her.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

RHYSAND my baby ❤ I don’t usually crush hard on fictional characters but my oh my, if he was real, I’d sell my soul to be his life mate.

9. Newest Favourite Character?

EHHHH.. none? Maybe Rhysand again? I need to read more books, probably.

10. Book That Made You Cry?

None so far, which is kind of surprising. I’m a cry baby guys, almost any emotion makes me cry. Happiness, sadness, anger, fear, anxiety, you name it. Movies make me cry, music too, any form of media my brain can comprehend has a high chance of making me bawl my eyes out. Maybe I just haven’t found the right book yet.

11. Book That Made You Happy?

All of them! I was in a bad place the whole of last year and it prevented me from enjoying the things I usually do so when I got better and my interest in reading started sparking again, it just made me happy that I have that to fall back unto again. Thank goodness for books right?

12. Favourite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

I have a confession to make. I’m one of those people who refuses to see a movie adaptation when I haven’t read the book yet. I know, I know. That puts me at a whopping… ZERO movies lol. I’ll get to one of them I promise!

13. Favourite Review You’ve Written This Year?

Can I pick two? I’ll pick two. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter and The Good Daughter by hers too. I thought I translated my hype for these books really well in writing so I’m pretty proud of that. Also, I just want to gush haha READ ITTTT

13. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year So Far?

I’m on a buying ban and I’m still going strong so I’d say NONE!

14. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

PLENTY. I just counted last night and my impulsive self accepted 100 review books alone. ONE. HUNDRED. I also have my regular TBR on top of that plus the physical books I own plus I have two Kindles I gotta use and I have library books and Scribd books and all the audible shit I bought.

Oh, and I also read Wattpad works and Manga and Webtoons and translated web novels. Yeah. I GOT PLENTY.

How’s your year going so far? Any specific goals you’re tracking? Is it going well? (I hope it is). Please comment links to your tag if you’ve done this! I will browse through blogs but I might miss some. Happy Half of the Year guys! ❤

Lots of love,
