Reading Habits Tag

BirthdayCoffee& ChillI realized that I haven’t been posting anything more diverse than book reviews on my blog so far and even I am getting bored about it. So I did some googling and decided to do one of the tags that caught my eye. I don’t know exactly if tags involving specific books or book characters will be a good fit for me right now because my attention span is super short and anything I’ve read in the past week or so is pretty much dust in my head.

This tag is created by TheBookJazz and you can find her here.

Anyways, let’s begin 🙂

Reading Habits

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
6. One book at a time or several at once?
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
8. Reading out lout or silently in your head?
9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
11. Do you write in your books?

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Umm, not really. Something I feel I should remedy actually. I want to buy a small accent chair to put in my room so I can have a place to condition myself to associate it with reading. Maybe I’ll be more productive? Haha

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

99.9% of the time, a bookmark. I really do love my bookmarks and I basically can’t leave the house with a book without a bookmark. On the rare occasion that I forget, I’ll grab whatever.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I prefer to stop at the end of  a chapter. It feels like there’s closure in whatever part of the story I was at. Especially if it’s multiple perspective. Obviously though, if I am too sleepy or the book isn’t as interesting, I stop whenever.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Neither. I tend to hyper focus when I read and I lose track of time and forget to even eat or go use the washroom. Plus I hate getting my fingers messy because of food crumbs or spilled drink.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Nope haha. I can’t. My brain can only concentrate on one verbal thing at a time. If I hear people speaking or singing, my attention tends to go there instead of where I’m reading. Even when writing blog posts or journaling it has to be silent or it just won’t happen.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

I want to say several books at a time but realistically just one book. Again, it falls back to my really bad multitasking skills and attention span.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere. When the weather is gorgeous I prefer reading in a park or somewhere outdoors where I can hear the birds chirping and a slight wind blowing. That ambient noise is perfect. If not though, reading at home works as well.

8. Reading out lout or silently in your head?

Silently in my head. It makes the reading at the same speed I prefer it to be. Reading out loud is so slow. It makes my retention shit though lol.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

I tend to skip if something s boring me but nothing more than a page at a time. Not very much as well. Oh well, if it helps me finish the book I will do it.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Halfway? I kinda break it but not really. Just enough so it opens comfortably and not slowly closing every time I prop it. The spine just slowly breaks the more I read it. I don’t really care if I break books, it just means it’s well loved.

11. Do you write in your books?

No, but not because I don’t wan to ruin it. I just prefer having a separate notebook to keep all my notes and quotes about a book or several books. Plus I love writing things down so it works for me.

Me too! A specific reading nook/place would be awesome if we can commit to it haha I wish I could! I have done that to some books, I just always get frustrated because I like having them in one place instead of grabbing each and every one book and then flipping through.
